If Dummy was the only release that year, it would still have been a great year!

I've been saying that 1994 was a wildly good year for music! Here's what I would add (though it's not even close to exhaustive!!):

Veruca Salt - American Thighs

Beck - Mellow Gold

NIN - The Downward Spiral

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged

Pulp - His 'n' Hers

Liz Phair - Whip-Smart

Elliott Smith - Roman Candle

The Cranberries - No Need to Argue

Hole - Live Through This

Jawbox - For Your Own Special Sweetheart. The track “Savory” is a solid track for the decade.

Love Portishead. Listened to them exclusively for a solid month upon discovery.

I remember being given a cassette (when piracy was killing music!) in late 1994 when I was at university with Dummy on one side and Grace on the other. A friend thought I might like them. Understatement. They not only blew my mind but have been touchstones ever since.

These are good reads when I get chance. I enjoyed the recent pop princesses edition. I enjoyed 1994 I think. Underworld's Dubnobasswithmyheadman kicked the year off well.

I’m laughing because I started reading this the day you posted it, and right at the beginning, I clicked the link to listen to Chris Cornell’s version of Nothing Compares 2 U, and never made it back to finish reading hahahaha!!! ADHD.

My younger two boys play Black Hole Sun a lot! I’ll be back after I finish reading!! Hahahaha!!
